The Battle Begins & CSA Starts Next Week!

Posted 6/4/2018 6:56pm by Aaron Lichtenberg.

It's been a busy spring out there with a cold, dry start to the 2018 season, but we've still been able to make headway. The high tunnel was constructed and planted in early May, the tractor was fixed right after that, and we'll now have our head in the dirt until Fall!

Last year we finally got approved for our drip irrigation project from NRCS and boy has it been useful so far! Here you see one of the moisture meters that we'll be using to measure soil saturation in order to plan irrigation events.

Since we hadn't yet pulled drip-line over all the planted beds, we had to keep laying line to the quickly drying beds that were planted earlier in the spring, but...The enemy is waiting just outside the row cover.

Here you can see flea beetles hammering away the early cabbage planted, and a picture of the rows we pulled drip into without uncovering the bed for fear of letting our little pest friends in. The challenges in providing Nature's bounty is underway!

Our first CSA pickup's start next week, if you can believe it! (we can't! ;)

Members will start receiving "auto reminders" via email the evening before your selected pickup day. We'll also be doing our best to get everyone an update of what may be in the weekly share, with recipes to share throughout the season.

If you haven't signed up for CSA yet...it's not too late! -and- a sincere Thank you! once again to everyone who has joined on with us for another great season...let's see what summer 2018 brings to nourish us and our families.
